Bijoy Garg (born July 15, 2002) is an American racing sensation. He is currently making waves in the 2024 IMSA SportsCar Championship and the 2024 European Le Mans Series with United Autosports in LMP2. Garg's journey to the top has been marked by impressive feats, including his triumphant debut at the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he won the LMP2 class racing with United Autosports.
Garg’s racing career began at age 13, at Sonoma Raceway’s go-karting track. He was the Northern California Senior ROK Go-Karting Champion in 2018, winning several races. After a break in 2019 to apply to college, Bijoy moved up to racing cars with Jay Howard Driver Development, starting with the 2020 Formula 4 United States Championship. In 2021, Garg continued to hone his skills in the USF2000 Championship, achieving a third-place finish at Mid-Ohio and securing 8th place in the championship standings.
2022 marked a pivotal shift in Garg's career as he joined DEForce Racing to race USF2000. Despite missing the final three races because he moved up to USFPro 2000 midway through the season, he had a stellar year in USF2000, earning two podiums, including 2nd place in an oval race at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. DEForce Racing recognized Garg's potential, announcing that he would step up to the USF Pro 2000 Championship for the 2023 season.
Garg added Sports Cars to his repertoire in 2023, racing an LMP3 car with JRIII Motorsports. After a bumpy start to the season in Daytona, Garg dominated the rest of the season, winning 8 of the remaining 10 races and the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge Championship. Garg competed in his first Weathertech race at Road America in an LMP3 and won Petit Le Mans in October 2023, with 110,000 in-person spectators cheering him on.
Bijoy had his first experience driving LMP2 in a race in the 24 hours of Daytona. The car reached the podium in his second race at the 12 hours of Sebring. The most challenging race of Bijoy’s career was the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, which featured eight hours of heavy rain and many yellow flags. The team qualified 8th in the LMP2 group and was in 3rd place for quite a bit of the race. As is normal in such a long race, the team had some bad luck and made a couple of mistakes, but came back strongly after the 20th hour and won the race by 18 seconds. Less than 10 rookies have won Le Mans to date!!
Now, competing at the highest levels of endurance racing, Bijoy Garg continues to showcase his exceptional driving prowess and determination. His rapid ascent through the ranks and his remarkable achievements at such a young age suggest a promising future ahead in the world of motorsports.
